The versatile 45 mm Rim depth for road Carbon Wheels

New Disc 45 – Between low and high rim depth

The 45 mm rim profile not only improves aerodynamics, but also delivers better handling in crosswinds. Combined with the overall low weight of the wheelset, this makes it a well-balanced and truly versatile option for varied road terrain.

The moderate rim depth makes these wheels equally suitable for flat roads and rolling terrain. Thanks to the carbon rim construction, the wheels remain very light, which translates into faster acceleration and easier climbing. Weight starts at 1440 grams in the base configuration with DT Swiss 350 hubs and drops to 1280 grams in the lightest setup with Evanlite hubs and carbon spokes.

Hubs – a synonym for reliability

When configuring the New Disc 45, you can choose between Evanlite hubs and DT Swiss Straightpull hubs. All options are based on the 36T ratchet system, known for precise engagement and high reliability.

The new Evanlite hubs are a lightweight and well-priced alternative to DT Swiss, using high-quality TPI steel bearings with double labyrinth sealing (LLB). DT Swiss hubs, on the other hand, are valued for their legendary durability and long-standing reputation among cyclists.

All hub options feature a Straightpull design — for straight spokes without bends at the hub interface — which improves both aerodynamics and long-term wheel durability.

Spokes: Sapim, DT Swiss, or carbon

Spokes are one of the most important yet often overlooked components of a wheelset. In the Evanlite configurator for the New Disc 45, four options are available: versatile Sapim D-Light, lightweight DT Aerolite, stiff and durable DT Aerocomp, and new carbon spokes offering top-level stiffness and strength.

  • Sapim D-Light (2.0–1.65–2.0 mm): a balance of low weight and durability — ideal for all-round use.
  • DT Aerolite: among the lightest spokes on the market, recommended mainly for ultra-light builds where weight is the top priority.
  • DT Aerocomp: higher strength and noticeably greater stiffness under high power — especially valued for sprints, racing, and aggressive riding.
  • Carbon spokes: very high stiffness combined with low weight — for riders looking for maximum wheel response.

Which tire width?

The New Disc 45 rim has an internal width of 21 mm and an external width of 30 mm. The rim profile is optimized for best aerodynamic performance with 25–30 mm road tires. The approved tire width range is 25–42 mm. The hooked rim design offers the safest solution for road use and allows both tubeless and tube-type setups.

Durability and service

If service is required, Evanlite hubs, DT Swiss hubs, and Sapim/DT spokes are all widely available, making maintenance and repairs straightforward. The wheels are also covered by the Evanlite Protector program — a 2-year free repair in the event of damage during use.

Evanlite wheels are designed with long-term durability in mind. The use of high-quality materials and components ensures reliable multi-season use in varied riding conditions.

A routine service check is recommended once per season, including spoke tension inspection, ratchet cleaning and lubrication, and bearing inspection.

Who is 45 mm for?

Wheelsets built around the 45 mm Evanlite rim are a smart choice for riders looking for lightweight carbon wheels that improve efficiency across varied road terrain.

Compared to standard aluminum wheels, the New Disc 45 makes it easier to maintain higher speeds on flat sections while also delivering more dynamic performance on rolling and mountainous routes, making the bike more responsive under acceleration.

For performance-focused riding and low rolling resistance, we recommend tires in the 25–30 mm range. For all-road or endurance use, wider all-road tires up to 42 mm can be used without issue.
