ASTM Wheels Classification
Evanlite wheel models are classified for specific use according to the international bicycle wheel classification by ASTM International.
The wheel classification defines intended use and riding limits on a 1–5 scale. The explanation and wheel category assignment are shown below:
1. Road
Designed for riding on smooth, paved surfaces. The goal is continuous tire contact with the ground, although short and accidental loss of contact may occur.
2. Gravel
Includes the conditions from point 1, extended to unpaved roads, gravel roads, and off-road paths with gentle gradients. Tire contact with uneven ground and temporary loss of contact is allowed. Jumps up to 15 cm (6") are permitted.
3. Cross-Country / MTB Marathons
Includes conditions from points 1 and 2, extended to rough off-road trails and technical terrain for experienced riders, requiring proper riding skills. Jumps up to 61 cm (24") are permitted. Due to lightweight wheel construction, damage may occur even when used correctly if rider error happens.
4. Enduro
Includes conditions from points 1, 2, and 3, extended to jumps up to 122 cm (48") and maximum speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph) on technical downhill sections. Due to lightweight construction, wheel damage may occur even when used correctly if rider error happens.
5. Downhill / Freeride
Includes conditions from points 1, 2, 3, and 4, extended to extreme jumps, no speed limit on technical downhill sections, and no jump height limit. Due to extremely high loads, wheel damage may occur even when used correctly if rider error happens.
The presented cycling disciplines are examples only. Actual routes, such as race courses defined by organizers, may include elements beyond this classification. Following the usage standards does not eliminate the risk of wheel damage caused by rider error.
